Foreign Workers In Negeri Sembilan Are Now Banned From Living In Residential Areas
They must move into centralised labour quarters (CLQs) by the end of the year.
The Negeri Sembilan government has announced a prohibition on foreign workers residing in residential areas within the state
According to a Facebook post by Negeri Sembilan Local Government Development, Housing, and Transport Committee chairperson Arul Kumar Jambunathan, the state government has decided to ban foreign workers from staying in any residential areas, providing a grace period until the end of the year.
During this period, all residences used as accommodations for foreign workers will undergo a whitewashing process to obtain Accommodation Certificates from the Department of Labour. All foreign workers currently residing in residential areas must be relocated to commercial zones or centralised labour quarters (CLQs).
Arul during a visit to a Centralised Labour Quarter (CLQ) lodge residence in Bandar Baru Nilai, which houses nearly 1,000 units and can accommodate 3,500 workers.

Arul, who is also the Nilai assemblyperson, said the local authorities have outlined several criteria for the CLQs
"These CLQs must be fenced and constantly monitored. They must also be equipped with all basic facilities for foreign workers," he said, adding that this will ensure the rights of every foreign worker to have a comfortable and safe place to live.
The implementation of this measure aims to address issues arising from foreign workers in residential areas, such as disturbances and hygiene concerns, he noted in his Facebook post.
He said that the state government also has plans to assist in the construction of the CLQs.
However, Arul did not specify whether this includes live-in foreign domestic helpers.
