As announced during Budget 2022, the government is offering grants to help boost the Malaysian tourism, arts, and culture sectors
Under the umbrella of Geran Padanan Pelancongan, Seni, dan Budaya (GPPSB), there are two types of grants available — Geran Sepadan Sektor Pelancongan (GSSP) and Geran Sepadan Sektor Kebudayaan (GSSK).
Both grants are initiatives by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC), as part of the MOTAC Tourism Recovery Plan. By offering these grants, the aim is to help industry players from various sectors and backgrounds organise high-impact tourism, arts, and culture programmes/events in 2022.
According to YB Dato' Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri, Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, the total amount allocated for the grants is RM50 million

She also added that the grants are meant to invigorate and revitalise the tourism and cultural sectors, which have been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years.
At the same time, this will help relevant industry players stay empowered as they promote Malaysia as a safe tourism destination. It will also stimulate the country's arts and culture ecosystem, in addition to reestablishing Malaysia as a top tourist destination in the Asian region.
Here's a breakdown of the two different grants:
1. GSSP focuses on the organisation of domestic and international tourism programmes/events once the borders are reopened

The maximum allocation amount for a GSSK is RM500,000 for one programme/event held in the country in 2022.
Just like for GSSP, organisers are allowed to apply for grants for more than one programme/event taking place in 2022, but each application should have different concepts and features.
Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) will be able to get grants that cover up to 90% of the estimated cost of overall expenditure, while companies can get grants that cover up to 80% of the estimated cost of overall expenditure.
Successful applicants will receive the first deposit of up to 80% of the total approved amount before their programme/event begins. The balance will be given to them after MOTAC receives the applicant's completed documentation.
Approved programmes/events must be carried out by 31 October 2022, and no extensions will be allowed.
Application deadline for GSSK: 31 August 2022
Applications for GSSP and GSSK are now open.
