Iconic Speedy Outlet In Mid Valley Is Closing Down And Netizens Are Devastated
It's the beginning of the end for one of Malaysia's most well-known home entertainment stores.

On Sunday, 8 September, Twitter user @putraadibadham urged everyone to pay their last respects to the iconic branch.
He wrote, "Part of the journey is the end. We are entering a new age. To all movie lovers, let's all pay our final respects to Speedy. Come to Mid Valley where they're having a mega sale before closing down!"
The tweet has since garnered 3,400 retweets and 2,000 likes.
Over the years, several popular Speedy branches have closed down.
As netizens say goodbye to the memorable Mid Valley outlet, they looked back on their fondest memories of the store.

Speedy Video has been around for 30 years since 1989. They're a local company that specialises in home entertainment such as DVDs, Blu-Rays, Video CDs, and CDs.
At their prime, there were over 90 Speedy outlets across Malaysia.

The formerly bustling outlets at 1 Utama, Bangsar Village, and Pavillion Kuala Lumpur closed down several years ago.
Although there are still a few Speedy branches across Malaysia, it is truly the beginning of the end.
Twitter user @putraadibadham wrote, "Back when I was in Form 4 or 5, I saved up my allowance every week. At the end of the month, I'll head to Speedy Eastern Plaza in Tawau to buy these. It would take me months to save up enough money to buy this many."

"I have so many memories at Speedy. My father would take my two siblings and me to Speedy once a month. Each of us gets to choose one movie so by the end of the month, there will be three new movies in our collection," said @Yusoff_Imran.

Another netizen wrote, "I remember when there used to be a Speedy store in Shah Alam Mall, Section 9. At the end of every month after Kumon class, my dad will bring my siblings and me to the store and let us pick one or two movies. The good old days."

Speedy Mid Valley's clearance sale will be held until Sunday, 15 September. DVDs and VCDs are being sold for as low as RM5 each.
