Ismail Sabri: BN Will Not Back Any Coalitions To Form Govt

According to Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Barisan Nasional has agreed to remain as the opposition.

Barisan Nasional (BN) has decided that the coalition will not back any other political coalition to form a government, former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced today, 22 November

According to Ismail Sabri, BN has refused to support Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN), two of the biggest coalitions

"So far BN has agreed to remain as the opposition," he tweeted.

The elections have resulted in a hung parliament

While PH won the highest number of seats at 82, and PN came in second with 73 seats, BN — despite suffering its worst-ever defeat in elections — has become the "kingmaker" due to its 30 seats.

Both PH and PN need the support of parliamentarians from other parties to have a simple majority of 112 seats or more to form the next government. Neither of them can form a government without BN.

Without BN, Malaysia may see a minority government in place.
