Mahathir Says Not Wrong For Govt MPs To Topple Anwar Like They Did To Muhyiddin
He said that the representatives have the right to change the government and that doing so is not against the law.
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said it would not be wrong if government members of parliament (MPs) wanted to topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as they did to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in 2021
Speaking during a press conference in Putrajaya today, 28 March, the former prime minister said that the representatives have the right to change the government and that doing so is not against the law.
"I think that if a government is not governing well, its party members should overthrow that government and choose another one. (This) is like what happened when Muhyiddin was prime minister," he added.
Mahathir was responding to reporters' questions on whether the grand coalition government led by Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) could remain in office until the end of its five-year term
According to Mahathir, members can help the government succeed or to choose new leaders.
He said that the Anwar-led government was all talk and no action.
"The political situation is also unstable. Every day (Anwar) mentions the things he wants to do but doesn't see anything," Mahathir claimed, without giving any justification.
Giving Muhyiddin's example, Mahathir said that at the time, UMNO was not satisfied.
"UMNO withdrew support and Muhyiddin fell and was replaced by an UMNO leader," Malaysiakini quoted Mahathir, who was the prime minister himself for more than two decades, as saying.
Muhyiddin was replaced by Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in August 2021.

The nonagenarian also expressed his grouse with the government's alleged lack of interest in defending the plight of the Malays
"I am not convinced at all, because it (today's government) thinks that it does not have a specific problem for Malays only. All problems are shared as a multiracial country," he said.
