After 30 years of business, the famous Capitol Satay Celup Restaurant in Melaka will be closing their doors in November

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, 28 September, the popular tourist spot announced that they will be shutting down within the next two months.

However, they said they will still be open for dine-in with strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) until further notice.

They apologised for any shortcomings and also thanked customers for all their support through the years.

Capitol Satay Celup has been operating for over 30 years

The business started on the back of a tricycle before they opened the current shop on Lorong Bukit China that tourists from all over have come to know.

According to China Press, the owners said they have decided to close the shop due to the sharp decline in customers for the last year during the pandemic, even citing one day with completely zero transactions.

Coupled with less income, increased rent, and expensive material prices, they said it was time to close the family business.

If you have never visited the place, the shop is well-known for drawing in a crowd before dinner and supper on the weekends

They serve satay celup — or, as locals say, lok-lok — with a wide selection of fresh seafood, vegetables, meat, and fishballs to dip into their signature satay sauce.

Unlike other local satay celup joints, they also draw in tourists by serving premium ingredients such as scallops, tiger prawns, and abalone.
