Prior to this, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri expressed his concern over the possibility of a re-emergence of the COVID-19 outbreak in the state should a Melaka state election be held
Ismail said he acknowledged the concerns raised by the rakyat that the Melaka state election could spell a similar disaster as seen in the previous state election in Sabah, reported New Straits Times.
"Prior to the (state election), Sabah had recorded a low number of (COVID-19) cases. There was a surge in cases afterward, causing the people to raise their concerns over a possible repeat of the situation," said the premier today.
"If it ever comes to that (state election), the Election Commission will issue stringent SOPs (standard operating procedures)."
He said the Ministry of Health (MOH) will be consulted if a state election is held.
The premier also said he will leave the matter to UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to address the status of the Melaka state government.
