Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) president SA Vigneswaran confirmed that Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi sent a letter to Istana Negara declaring that all 30 Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs supported Pakatan Harapan (PH) leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister

"He (Zahid) admitted sending the letter after 10 BN MPs retracted their support for (Perikatan Nasional chairperson) Muhyiddin (Yassin) and BN made the decision to remain neutral," said Vigneswaran.

The letter was circulating online but BN Communications had previously stated that the letter was fake.

Although the letter mentioned 30 MPs, only 28 signed an undertaking prior to the general election, giving Zahid the authority to hold discussions with other parties about allying, reported Malaysiakini.

According to PH sources, the coalition now has 116 seats in total with the inclusion of the 28 BN MPs, which is enough for PH to form a government

Meanwhile, according to BN sources, the letter heightened tensions at the coalition's supreme council meeting last night, 22 November, and an attempt was made to remove Zahid as chairperson.

This was thwarted, however, when UMNO MPs who were waiting outside entered the meeting room, the sources told Malaysiakini.
