School is almost back in session, and parents are gearing up for the annual hustle of getting everything ready, along with the extra expenses that come with it!

The cost of uniforms, textbooks, stationery, and other essentials can quickly add up, especially for families juggling tight budgets. For many, even a small financial boost can make a world of difference.

This is where the government's Early School Assistance (BAP) programme steps in, offering a much-needed lifeline to families nationwide.

This year, the BAP programme is providing RM150 in assistance to over 5.2 million students nationwide

Starting 13 January, all students from Year 1 to Form 4 will receive a one-off cash aid of RM150 under the BAP initiative. This financial aid, introduced by the Education Ministry, aims to ease the financial burden on parents as they prepare their children for the upcoming school semester.

But that's not all — the programme has been expanded to now include Form 6 students!

Here's a breakdown of the distribution schedule:

  • 13 January: Year 1 to Form 4 students (2024/2025 school session)
  • 16 February: Form 6 Semester 2 students and Year 1 students (2025/2026 session)
  • 1 July: New Form 6 students

The assistance will be distributed either through schools or via bank transfer. For primary school students, cash will be handed directly to parents through the school. For secondary school students, the money will be handed to either parents or the students themselves.

Another form of disbursement will be via bank transfer to parents' or students' bank accounts.

When it comes to preparing for school, RM150 can stretch a long way

It could mean a pair of new shoes, a fresh set of books, or a sturdy school bag that lasts all year. For families with multiple children, this assistance could be the much-needed relief they've been waiting for.

With a total allocation of RM791.25 million, the government is ensuring that over 5.2 million students nationwide benefit from this programme. It's a meaningful effort to ease the financial burden on families while helping students get the essentials they need to thrive in the classroom.
