The Ministry of Health (MOH) has fined the organisers of the 100-Day Malaysian Family Aspiration event at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) for not enforcing SOPs
In a statement today, 10 December, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin expressed regret that there were SOP violations at the event.
"The organisers of such official government events should set the best example, and be an example and benchmark to other agencies, and also the public," he said.
Earlier, there was also public concern after photos of large crowds at KLCC circulated on social media.
The organisers have been fined RM1,000 for breaching SOPs under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988
"Following the repeal of the emergency ordinances in Dewan Negara on 8 December, the maximum compound value that can be imposed on individuals and organisations is RM1,000," said Khairy.
"We will continue to monitor and will not hesitate to take further action if organisers still fail to ensure SOP compliance," he also assured.
Meanwhile, the police and Road Transport Department (JPJ) counters to pay discounted summons at the event will be closed immediately
Khairy said the crowded situation, lack of physical distancing, and no control of the number of visitors only increases the risk of spreading COVID-19.
He added that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will provide further information on how the public may pay their summons and enjoy the discounted offers soon.
JPJ and PDRM offered discounted traffic summons up to 80% in conjunction with the event from 9 December to 12 December in KLCC:
