Mother & Son Drown After Water Surge Traps Family On Picnic In Perak
Two children, aged two and seven, are still missing.
A mother and her son were found drowned after they were trapped by a water surge during a picnic at Kampung Poh in Bidor, Perak
According to Bernama, six family members and a domestic helper were having a picnic at Sungai Kenjur before being trapped by surging water at around 4pm yesterday, 7 February.
The mother and three children went missing after the incident, while the mother's sister, her 11-year-old son, and the domestic helper survived.
The first victim found drowned was the 37-year-old mother, Aszura Bani.
With the help of villagers, four-year-old Hafif Muhayat Azam's body was recovered at 9.50pm last night, reported Harian Metro.
"The [boy's] body was found in a deep river, stuck under tree roots at about 600m from the family's picnic area," said Tapah district police chief Supt Mohd Naim Asnawi.
The boy's body identified by his 51-year-old aunt, Aznur Radin Mustapha Amiruddin.

At the time of writing, two victims are still missing
Aszura's two children, seven-year-old Hanna Mikayla and two-year-old Hanum Marissa, are still missing.
Last night, a total of 12 villagers volunteered to search for the missing children.
Bernama reported that the search operation ended at 7.30pm and was scheduled to resume today, 8 February. However, the villagers continued their search and managed to find Hafif Muhayat's body.
Meanwhile, Mohd Naim urged members of the public to be careful when participating in water-related activities during the Northeast Monsoon season.
