Editor's Note: The report has been updated.

The Pardons Board held a meeting at the Istana Negara yesterday, 29 January, regarding Datuk Seri Najib Razak's pardon application

The confirmation of the meeting came from Dr Zaliha Mustafa, the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), who had attended the meeting, reported The Star today, 30 January.

However, she did not reveal any details about the meeting.

"Wait for an official statement by [the] Pardons Board," she was quoted as saying today.

The meeting is likely to be Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah's last official engagement before stepping down from the throne tomorrow, 31 January

An unverified report from Utusan Malaysia earlier claimed that the Pardons Board has approved Najib's application. The former prime minister is serving a 12-year sentence for corruption.

The Utusan report, however, has since been retracted.

"Utusan Malaysia has retracted the news about Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's pardon as the facts were not verified. We apologise to readers," read a note on the newspaper's website, where the story was published.

SAYS is unable to independently verify the claim that Najib has been pardoned.

There has also been no official statement from the Pardons Board yet.

He was found guilty of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering involving RM42 million that had been siphoned from SRC International, a former 1MBD subsidiary. He was also fined RM210 million.

Regardless of the pardon status, Najib is still facing trial for other 1MDB-related charges. Read about them here:
