Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak and his second wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, want the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to investigate a photograph

The disgraced political couple has lodged a report with the regulatory body via a close family friend.

The individual, who declined to be identified, lodged the report at the MCMC Headquarters in Cyberjaya Friday afternoon, 20 May. MCMC has confirmed receiving the report, according to Utusan Malaysia.

The photo was uploaded on Twitter on 18 May, following which it has gone viral, prompting widespread rumours that the 68-year-old UMNO leader has taken a new wife, said to be 53-year-old Hashimah Ramli.

Hashimah, also known as Shima, is the former wife of composer Fauzi Marzuki, who claims to be unaware of her alleged marriage with Najib. Fauzi and Hashiimah were married in 1993 and divorced in 2013.

According to Bahasa Melayu news portal Getaran, Najib and Hashimah have been married for over a year.

"No comment. [Hashimah's] marriage to [Najib] has nothing to do with me. Since we divorced in 2013, she is free to marry whoever she chooses. I myself do not know why the media is looking at me about her marriage. I have nothing to do with this," the portal quoted Fauzi as saying.

However, the family friend of Najib and Rosmah claims that the photo is edited and that they want the investigation to decide whether it has been photoshopped, whether the accompanying information provided was false, and for legal action to be taken if the viral information was false.

The family friend said that when he showed the photo to Najib and Rosmah, they were both "very shocked" as the rumours are not true

He added that they asked him to file the report with MCMC for further action.

"I'm making this report on their behalf, and asking for action to be taken once it can be proven that the photo and its caption are fakes," Utusan Malaysia quoted the family friend as saying yesterday, 21 May.

Meanwhile, Deputy National Unity Minister Wan Ahmad Fayhsal has wished Najib a 'happy new marriage' after the photo went viral:
