Perhilitan Wants You To Stop Sharing Videos Of Wild Animal Sightings Coz Of Poachers

The videos should instead be sent to the department to facilitate further action, it said.

The Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) has advised people to not share videos of wild animal sightings on social media as they give an opportunity to irresponsible parties such as poachers

According to Perhilitan Terengganu director Loo Kean Seong, sharing wildlife sighting videos on social media with details such as location and time they were spotted only gives an opportunity to poachers.

Loo said these videos should instead be sent to his department for further action and monitoring.

Loo claimed that sharing such videos have negative effects

"Perhaps the intention is for others to be careful with the existence of wild animals around the location but there are negative effects of sharing (these videos) on social media and this must stop," he said.

The Perhilitan advisory comes after a 33-second video of a tiger being spotted by a driver in Paka went viral on social media last night

The blurry clip was posted by a man who claimed to be in Santong, Paka near Dungun. He managed to record the tiger coming out of the bushwa and then crossing the path used by the villagers.

Loo said that they have yet to receive a report about the sighting

He also advised people who come across a tiger to keep a safe distance.

 According to Loo, there is the possibility of the wild animal acting aggressively and so if they want to take a video, just do it from a safe distance and report it to Perhilitan to facilitate monitoring.
