2,267 Petronas Students To Receive Living Allowance Increase From RM1,000 To RM1,500
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the RM500 increase in allowance is to address the rising cost of living.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that Petronas will be increasing the living allowance for its sponsored students from RM1,000 to RM1,500
The announcement was made at the presentation of the Petronas Education Sponsorship Programme (PESP) held yesterday, 20 September, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Kuala Lumpur.

The study material allowance increase will also be applicable for tertiary education students studying abroad and will be effective immediately for 2,267 Petronas-sponsored students
According to Ismail Sabri, the reason for the increase was to address the rising cost of living in the country and to ease the burden of students when purchasing study material for their studies.
"I hope all this assistance (allowances) will help alleviate the burden of students as well as their parents to ensure better futures for their children," the prime minister said.
Ismail Sabri also added that students who were recently sponsored by the oil and gas company will receive an onboarding allowance increase from RM4,500 to RM5,000
Amongst the 2,267 students who were awarded the sponsorship, 600 of them were students who received stellar Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results and 80% of them were from the B40 sector.
This was the highest recorded number of sponsorships to have been awarded by Petronas, which had an investment value of over RM340 million.
According to Bernama, Ismail Sabri said that throughout the years, PESP had successfully produced a workforce that was highly-skilled amongst young Malaysians. Therefore, he urged this year's recipients of the prestigious programme to take advantage of the opportunity to excel in their studies and return to serve the country.
