Remember The Taman Mutiara MRT Assaulter? He's Getting 18 Years In Jail

Berita Harian reported that the man received his sentence from Judge Mahyon Talib at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today.
On top of his 18-year jail sentence, the 26-year-old will also get five strokes of the cane.

According to Sin Chew Daily, the man was not represented by a lawyer in court today.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurliyana Mohd Jafri then told the court that G. Thinathayaalan should be slapped with a heavy sentence for his crime.
"This case has gained public attention... The victim suffered injuries to her head, face, and body. She is still in trauma to this day," Nurliyana said, according to Berita Harian.
The man's jail sentence was ruled to begin from 18 February, the day he was arrested
He was charged under Section 394 of the Penal Code, which stipulates a maximum jail sentence of 20 years and strokes of the cane.
G. Thinathayaalan was convicted of brutally assaulting a woman in a lift at the Taman Mutiara MRT Station at around 6.45am on 14 February.
