Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will tender his resignation to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Monday, 16 August, according to a report

Malaysiakini reported Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Special Functions) Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof saying that Muhyiddin conveyed his decision during a high-level meeting with Bersatu leaders.

"We just finished the meeting. Tomorrow, there will be a special Cabinet meeting. After that, he will head to Istana Negara to submit his resignation," Malaysiakini quoted Redzuan as saying.

According to Redzuan, the Bersatu president, who has lost majority support in the parliament, said that he had exhausted all avenues to sustain his administration and that resigning was the last resort.

The Vibes, while citing source familiar with the matter, reported that Muhyiddin informed attendees of this morning's meeting at the Perikatan Nasional headquarters at Publika that he will submit his resignation letter.

Meanwhile, Redzuan also criticised certain "irresponsible parties"

"We had discussed the direction (of the country) and what will happen if the prime minister resigns," he told New Straits Times, adding that Muhyiddin had explored all options to resolve the health and economic crises.

"However, we noticed that there were irresponsible quarters who tried to derail such an effort. They should instead help to ensure the success of the efforts that were introduced by the Prime Minister and PN government."

According to him, now it is up to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to ensure the country will be led by those who will continue to put the interest and wellbeing of the people.
