Selangor Couples Can Get Up To RM600 If They Get Married Before Turning 40
The incentive will be given out beginning next year.
The Selangor government is giving out RM300 to each Selangor citizen who gets married before the age of 40 beginning next year
The RM300 handout is given under a programme called 'Insentif Generasi Muda Selangor' (iGems), a pilot marriage course that aims to guide couples in building a loving family, reported Bernama.
Selangor Youth, Sports, and Human Capital Development Committee chairman Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the programme is also aimed at addresssing divorce cases among youths in the state.
He said Selangor had the highest number of divorce cases in 2017

"Most couples divorce within the first five years of marriage," The Star quoted Khairuddin as saying.
According to him, Selangor recorded 12,203 divorce cases in 2017 and most cases involved couples aged between 30 and 40.
"Our objective is to strengthen the institution of marriage," he said, adding that RM550,603 is allocated for the programme which will benefit about 1,500 Selangor youths.

Khairuddin said iGems is open to all races and people of different religions in the state.
"In order to qualify for the programme, one spouse must be from Selangor," he said.
If both the husband and wife are from Selangor, Khairuddin said the couple will receive a total of RM600 after attending the session.
"If only one partner is from Selangor, then the Selangorian receives RM300."
The incentive will be given in the form of a RM300 voucher, which can be cashed out at any Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) branches within 45 days.
Here are all the requirements applicants need to meet to attend the programme:

- Applications must be made online,
- Malaysian,
- Born in Selangor or not in Selangor,
- Must have resided in Selangor for at least 10 years (MyKad must have a Selangor address),
- Must be a registered voter in a Selangor constituency at the time of application,
- Married less than six months ago at the time of application,
- It must be registrants' first marriage when the application is made, and
- Aged 40 and under at the time of application.
Applications are also open to couples who were married on 1 September 2018 and after
Bernama reported that applicants married between 1 September 2018 and 31 December 2019 can also apply for the programme before the deadline on 31 June 2020.
The courses will begin in January next year.
