Drivers Applying For Vocational Driving Licences No Longer Need To Sit For Theory Test
However, they will still need to pass their practical test.
Today, 10 April, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced the abolishment of the theory test for vocational driving licences
According to Loke, those applying for a vocational licence under the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) and Goods Driving Licence (GDL) category will only be asked to attend theory classes online.
He said this was one of the steps taken to improve the licencing procedure.
"In line with the ministry's digitalisation efforts, theory classes for all categories of the vocational licence can be conducted online, through platforms provided by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and driving institutes," the Transport Minister said during a press conference, as reported by The Star.
Drivers, however, would still need to pass their practical test
Candidates applying for PSV licences for buses and GDL for articulated lorries are still required to undergo training and pass their practical test before they are given the vocational licence.

Meanwhile, the syllabus for the theory class in all vocational licence categories, especially involving taxi and e-hailing, will be reviewed and improved by JPJ and the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research
Loke said that institutions and intermediaries must fully use the teaching syllabus for vocational licence theory classes set by JPJ, which will also set the conditions and regulations related to the online platform and regulate theory classes to ensure the validity of the candidates.
According to him, candidates' details will be integrated with the MySIKAP system to enable vocational licenses to be issued directly to them without requiring physical presence at the JPJ counter.
