Woman Puts Public At Risk After Bringing COVID-19 Positive Mother To PPV For Vaccination

"Apparently, daughter and mum went for PCR tests yesterday (6 July) and [it came back] COVID-19 positive," wrote a volunteer doctor.

Operations at a vaccination centre (PPV) in Selangor came to a halt when a woman suddenly informed staff that her mother, who she brought for her vaccine appointment, was COVID-19 positive

A frustrated PPV personnel shared on his personal Instagram Stories that the woman knew her mother was infected but still turned up for the appointment at MINES International Exhibition and Convention Centre (MIECC) on Wednesday, 7 July.

"Apparently, daughter and mum went for PCR tests yesterday (6 July) and [it came back] COVID-19 positive. [The daughter] didn't inform her mother because she felt like there are many medical professionals here that she can consult," wrote the volunteer doctor.

The dentist from the private sector told SAYS that he was volunteering to vaccinate at MIECC when there was a sudden disruption to the flow in the hall at 10am.

The doctor wondered why the woman decided to bring her mother for her appointment despite knowing she was COVID-19 positive

On Instagram, he also questioned why the clinic who conducted their tests did not notify health authorities of their cases and why MySejahtera did not cancel her mother's appointment.

"She brought her mum here on Grab. Pity the driver. [They passed] the lobby registration with thousands of people, came up here to the waiting area, and then suddenly thought of notifying an usher that her mom is COVID-19 positive."

He lamented that it was this sort of selfish behaviour from individuals that has resulted in the prolongation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) as well as people suffering.

"You should be penalised for your actions! Thousands of people are not getting vaccinated now. Thousands of people are at risk. And this is how a cluster begins," he wrote.

On the same day, the COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) announced that vaccination services at MIECC were indeed suspended for a few hours due to an incident

However, contrary to the dentist's claim, CITF told New Straits Times that a woman only came to know she was COVID-19 positive after arriving at the centre.

"She was already at the PPV when a staff at the medical centre where she had undergone COVID-19 screening contacted her," they said in a statement, while also denying a claim that she was wearing a pink wristband.

"The PPV management took immediate action to isolate the woman and sanitisation was conducted by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba)."

They assured that operations at the centre resumed soon after sanitisation was completed.

CITF reminded the public to not come for their vaccine appointments if they are COVID-19 positive, close contacts, or suspected cases waiting their COVID-19 test results

They assured that vaccine registrants will receive a new appointment date if they have been postponed.

Meawhile, the PPV volunteer doctor added that he shared the story to spread awareness and to remind people to stop being irresponsible and ignorant as the pandemic rages on in the country.
