Earlier on Thursday, 13 May, firecrackers were thrown at a police team that was sent to disperse around 200 residents involved in setting off pyrotechnics at the Sri Perak apartments in Bandar Baru Sentul

According to Sentul district police chief ACP Beh Eng Lai, the team was sent to the location after receiving information around 12.50am about the crowd gathered there and exploding firecrackers indiscriminately.

However, when the team from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) arrived at the scene, the situation became tense, with the crowd ignoring the officers after being warned to stop setting off the firecrackers openly.

"As the police were trying to disperse the crowd, there was a sudden explosion, and it (the exploding object) nearly hit the police there," Bernama quoted ACP Beh as saying last night.

"The explosion is believed to be fireworks deliberately thrown at the police, and after that, the crowd immediately dispersed. No injuries were reported and the police managed to secure the area."

PDRM is now looking for suspects involved in the incident

The case is now being investigated under Section 3(5) of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for playing with fireworks and Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

ACP Beh advised the public to abide by the law and maintain the well-being and harmony in Kuala Lumpur, adding that strict action would be taken against individuals who violated the laws.

"The police have not detained anyone yet but are looking for the suspects involved. People who have any information related to the incident can contact the Sentul district police headquarters operations room at 03-40482206."

Prior to this, a PDRM officer was caught on video assaulting a security guard at a condominium in Taman Sri Manja, Petaling Jaya:
