According to the shop, the helmet's price is owed to its status as a genuine limited edition collectible from Shoei.

A Malaysian woman recently caused a stir online after she allegedly bought a SHOEI J Force 2 motorcycle helmet for RM86,000 — the price of a Toyota Vios — in cash

The sale was posted on Facebook by FT Garage Racing, a page which sells a variety of riding gear, including helmets, gloves, and raincoats that range in prices as low as RM10 to thousands of ringgit.

"But this is the first time we're selling helmets as expensive as RM86,000 a piece," they explained, adding that it was sold in less than 24 hours after its arrival on Malaysian soil.

Netizens accused the sale of being an elaborate marketing ploy for FT Garage Racing to gain public exposure, which the shop denied

In a separate post, FT Garage Racing claimed that the helmet's price is owed to its status as a genuine limited edition collectible from Shoei, a Japanese company that specialises in premium motorsport helmets. The shop said there are only six to seven pieces currently available in Malaysia.

"For collectible items like this, we normally already have a customer base. These people don't usually care about money, as they're super rich millionaires," the shop's representative said.

Netizens were shook that someone would be willing to spend such an exorbitant amount on a motorcycle helmet

"You can buy a Toyota Yaris with full specifications with that price," one shocked user said.

"What are the characteristics or outstanding qualities that helmet has for it to reach the price of tens of thousands of ringgit?" another person questioned.

"Yellow Apollo helmet selling for RM89,000," another user joked, highlighting the absurd sale.

For context, Apollo is a common and budget-friendly motorcycle helmet brand.
