Thor Chuan Leong brought an end to Malaysia's two-day gold medal drought at the 2023 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games with his first place victory yesterday, 14 May, in the men's snooker singles event

According to Bernama, he claimed the gold medal after defeating Thailand's Akani Songsermsawad in the finals at Sen Sok Aeon Mall.

With a magnificent finish of 4-1 with breaks of (74-42, 67-48, 53-72, 53-17, 63-21), Thor reclaimed the gold medal he won eight years ago during the 2015 edition of the SEA Games in Singapore.

Thor's first-place victory brings Malaysia's total number of gold medals at the 2023 SEA Games so far to 29

theSundaily reports that it will be challenging for the Malaysian contingent to achieve their 40-gold target.

All eyes will now be on hockey, badminton, and sepak takraw, for hopes of adding to the gold medal tally.

Currently, Malaysia ranks seventh overall, with 29 gold medals, 41 silver medals, and 79 bronze medals.

Only a few more days left before the 2023 SEA Games ends on 17 May. Keep cheering for our Malaysian athletes!
