Clean Sweep For Malaysia In Men's 5,000M Run At The Singapore Open
The win is a big boost for the Malaysian athletes ahead of the 2023 SEA Games.
At the Singapore Open yesterday, 26 April, Malaysia took over the podium in the men's 5,000m run event
According to New Straits Times, S Poo Vasanthan won gold with a time of 15:05.54s, Ikbolasen Kamal Hussain claimed second place with 15:07.22s, and Daren James Nair came third with 15:17.93s.
Vasanthan, 25, said that he didn't expect the three of them to dominate the podium.
"I don't know when was the last time Malaysian athletes took the top three places in an overseas competition," said the gold medal winner.
He also added that this win is a big boost for them ahead of the 2023 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, scheduled to take place in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, from 5 to 17 May.

In the upcoming SEA Games, Vasanthan will be participating in the men's 10,000m run
Ikbolasen will also be representing the nation in the men's 10,000m run, as well as the 5,000m run.
As for Daren, he will be competing in the men's 3,000m steeple chase and 5,000m run.
Malaysia also won gold in the women's long jump, beating two other Singaporean athletes
Nurul Ashikin Abas, who won that event with a leap of 5.88m, said that she is now in the right frame of mind for the SEA Games.
Besides that, athletes Sarvinder Kaur and Hizillawanty Jamain won first and second place respectively in the women's 800m run.
Jonah Chang Anak Rigan, also a SEA Games-bound athlete, won silver in the men's shot put with a throw of 16.50m.
