Malaysian Track Cyclist Fadhil Zonis Is Leading In The World Men's Time Trial Event

Fadhil — a Sime Darby Foundation rider — climbed up four rungs with 1,762.50 points, reported Bernama.

This comes after the 24-year-old cyclist attained 720 points for winning a silver medal at the UCI Nations Cup 1km time trial event.

The event was held at the Hong Kong Velodrome last weekend.

Fadhil also holds the record nationally and in Asia after clocking in 1:00.305s at the Berlin World Championships 1km time trial event last year.

According to the UCI website, Malaysia's national ranking climbed up 13 places following Fadhil's triumph and after fellow cyclist Muhammad Ridwan Sharom managed to end the same race at fourth place in Hong Kong.

However, Ridwan was ranked 25th with 600 points in the individual rankings.

Mohd Azizulhasni Awang — an Olympic gold-hopeful — lost his lead in the men's sprint event individual ranking.

The 33-year-old  came in fourth place with 1,300 points and was pushed down the ranks by Japanese cyclists Tomohiro Fukaya, Yudai Nitta, adn Yuta Wakimoto who managed to snag 1,632.50 points, 1,405 points and 1,335 points respectively at the National Cup event.

Azizulhasni did not participate in the event, reported Bernama.

Melbourne-based rider Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom also fell five spots to the 20th place with 792.5 points at the men's sprint event.

Meanwhile, Fadhil climbed 81 places to rank 25th with 756 points at the same event.

Fadhil also managed to place himself at the 11th spot with 890 points after climbing 172 places while Azizulhasni placed fifth with 1,240 points in the keirin event.

This is following the 23-year-old's bronze medal win at the women's 500m time trial event in Hong Kong.

Anis Amira also placed 35th at the keirin event after climbing 37 spots with 549 points. She ranked 40th at the sprint event with 573 points too.
