Johor Rewards State's Olympic & Paralympic Athletes For Competing In Tokyo 2020

The Johor government handed out a total of RM50,000 in cash rewards to Johor-born athletes who competed in the recent Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games
The tokens of appreciation were given to six athletes and two coaches by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad in a ceremony held at Kota Iskandar on Tuesday, 21 September.
According to Hasni's Facebook post, among the athletes who received the incentives was Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games silver medallist, Chew Wei Lun.
The 26-year-old, who won silver in the boccia event, received RM15,000, which comprised of RM5,000 for participating and RM10,000 for bringing the medal home.

The other athletes were given RM5,000 each as appreciation of their participation
Among the athletes included were Paralympian Siti Noor Iasah Mohamad Ariffin (sprinting), and Olympians Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom (cycling), Nur Aisyah Jamil (sailing), Kelly Tan Guat Chen (golf), and Syaqiera Mashayikh (archery).
Malay Mail reported that Nur Aisyah, Tan, and Syaqiera were represented by their parents.
Two coaches from Johor, Sallehudin Mohd Noh (cycling) and Muhammad Ashaari Zainal Abidin (tennis), also received RM5,000 each.
Also present were Johor Tourism, Youth, and Sports Committee chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Johor Sports Council director Nor Syazlan Abd Razak.

The Menteri Besar said they will also develop sports facilities in Johor, in line with the state's international standard athletes
According to Bernama, Hasni said the state government will look after the welfare of athletes and that local sports associations should also help, especially when athletes are no longer able to compete.
"The experience and knowledge they have should be used for further development of the sport," he added.
