Lumi News Malaysia is a new entrant to the scene, but offers a unique service which would delight all veracious readers and even the casual observer.

On the app, it features all the top stories as they happen, with headlines from over 30 of the best publishers around, including New Straits Times, Free Malaysia Today, The Rakyat Post, Bernama, and even SAYS!

There are even Chinese and Bahasa Melayu dailies onboard, with CCN 精彩大马, Berita Harian, and Harian Metro to name a few.

You can even customise your experience on the app

With Lumi, you can select which publishers you want to follow in your preferred languages, ensuring you get the news your way.

On top of that, you can also follow stories by topics, or even opt in to notifications whenever something of interest trends!

The app strives to provide people with direct access to the sources they know and trust, all in a fast, smooth, all-in-one experience.

They have special features too, specifically an all-in COVID-19 tracker and a 'Good News' tab

On the COVID-19 tab, users can see an overview of Malaysia's current vaccination rates, vaccination milestones, and the daily new cases statistics – complete with breakdowns by state!

The headline feature, however, is the revolutionary 'Good News' tab. Users will be treated with the latest "inspiring, wholesome, optimistic, humorous, and heartwarming news" at first glance.

Inspired in part by a conversation with Malaysian cartoonist Boey Chee Ming, the founders decided to add the feature to put a smile back on people's faces after what has been a gruelling past few months.

The founders want Lumi to be the only news app Malaysians will ever need

"We aim to shift the perception that news apps are only relevant to avid news readers by creating a more enjoyable, pain-free news reading habit for people of all age groups," says Lumi News Malaysia CEO Judith Yeoh.

The app was intentionally designed and presented to be inclusive of all Malaysians, regardless of their worldview. Indeed, they believe that by having multiple sources in the same place, it can lead to more cultural understanding.

"We want to build a better news app that everyone will need and want in their daily lives; the app they can't live without; the app they need to know what everybody's reading or saying. The app that illuminates their mind."

The Lumi founding team comprises of five people, namely Judith, tech lead Chan Hau Jie, design lead Rachel Anyi, product & content manager Tang Ruxyn, and app developer Chan Weng Keit.

The app is completely free, and is now available to download

You can get Lumi on the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Alternatively, you can search for 'Lumi News Malaysia' to download.

You can also follow the team on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or even Discord.
