New Nintendo Switch Will Be Announced By March 2025 — Company Confirms
However, the next-generation console will not be announced during the Nintendo Direct in June.
It's confirmed: Nintendo will announce the successor to the Nintendo Switch by March next year
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Nintendo Co President Shuntaro Furukawa said the announcement comes nine years after the announcement of the original Nintendo Switch in March 2015.
"This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will announce the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year," Furukawa confirmed through Nintendo's official X profile.
"It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015," he added.
The new Switch will not be announced during Nintendo Direct this June, Furukawa confirmed
"We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation," Furukawa said.
Nintendo Direct is a series of quarterly live online presentations where the company provides updates and announcements on their video games and consoles.
Nintendo's announcement coincides with the release of the company's financial results on 7 May.
Furukawa also hinted that the new Nintendo Switch will not undergo a revolution in design
David Gibson, a senior research analyst at MST Financial, took to X to share Furukawa's response to his question about whether the next-generation Switch console would be something completely new.
Furukawa replied, "Switch next model is the appropriate way to describe it."
In other words, the next-generation Nintendo Switch console may not stray too far from the existing Switch hardware.

Previously, when the Nintendo Switch was announced in March 2015, it took the company two years to launch the console on 3 March 2017. The same scenario could repeat again.
According to reports, the delay in the release of the next-generation Nintendo Switch is to develop stronger first-party software and to avoid potential hardware supply issues.
