44-year-old Tiong Choon Kwong was talking on the phone outside a mamak stall when he was shot at close range and subsequently succumbed to his injuries. In a twist of events, Tiong is said to be involved in the underground world himself.

A businessman from Sarawak succumbed to a gunshot wound at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) here about two hours after he was shot from close range by an assailant near a coffee shop at Beverly Hill in Bundusan, Penampang on Saturday night.

The 44-year-old from Sarawak was talking on his handphone outside a 24-hour coffeeshop at around 10:30pm on Saturday when he was shot in the abdomen at close range. The gunman fled in a white car.

Was Tiong a leader of a crime syndicate himself?
Tiong Choon Kwong @ Ah Nong King @ Raja Nong, the businessman who was killed on Saturday night at Beverly Hills by unknown gunmen is believed to be the leader of a crime syndicate that is very active in Sabah.
A Sarawakian, Tiong came to Sabah after he was placed under Restricted Residence and banished to Kunak, back in 2007. It is believed that Tiong masterminded drug deals while in Kunak.
It is also believed that most of his ‘right hand men’ are notorious gangsters from Sarawak. The word going around is that Tiong’s assassination could be due to a drug deal that went sour.
Tiong is said to be a former Restricted Residence detainee who served his time in Sabah’s east coast Kunak district some years ago and only started his business about two years ago.
His wife and two children are believed to be living in Sarawak although they come to Sabah often to visit him. Some of his friends in Sabah believe he may have been the victim of a hit ordered by underworld kingpins in Sabah or Sarawak.

Police immediately set up road blocks across the city in a bid to capture the assailant. It is understood that police are also recording the statements of the friends of the businessman, according to the news portal.
