Hawkers currently operating at Anjung Gurney and around the iconic Gurney Drive roundabout will soon be moving to a brand-new hawker centre in Gurney Bay

According to Penang state local government and town and country planning committee chairman H'ng Mooi Lye, construction of the new food hub is already underway and has reached just over 4% completion.

The upcoming hawker centre will feature 127 hawker stalls, seven beverage stalls, 17 retail lots, and 43 mobile kiosk spaces, Malay Mail reported.

A total of 93 traders are currently operating at the Anjung Gurney hawker site, while another 12 temporary static hawkers are located around the Gurney Drive area

H'ng said the relocation process will be carried out gradually to minimise disruptions and ensure that traders can continue operating smoothly during the transition.

He added that the hawker centre is one of the major public attractions planned for the waterfront development, with the aim of creating a more organised and comfortable space for traders and visitors alike, while also complementing Gurney Bay's role as a recreational hotspot in Penang.
