BREAKING: Your Whole Life Is A Lie, Hello Kitty Is NOT A Cat!
Hello Kitty? More like Hello Not A Kitty.
We're all familiar with Hello Kitty, the cute Japanese cat with no mouth...
As Hello Kitty prepares for her 40th birthday, Sanrio has finally revealed the "kitty's" real identity
This revelation about Hello Kitty, whose real name is Kitty White, happened when Christine R. Yano, an anthropologist who is curating for an upcoming Hello Kitty retrospective at the Japanese American National Museum, was corrected by Sanrio when she called the cute icon a cat.
mtv.com“I was corrected — very firmly,” Yano revealed.”That’s one correction Sanrio made for my script for the show. Hello Kitty is not a cat. She’s a cartoon character. She is a little girl," Christine R. Yano.
mtv.comHello Kitty is actually a little girl named Kitty White from England. Kitty is the daughter of George and Mary White, and has a twin sister named Mimmy.
As it turns out, Hello Kitty has an entire backstory created at a time when Japanese women romanticized life in England.
dailymail.co.uk"Apparently, according to Yano, her name is “Kitty White,” and she is the daughter of George and Mary White. "She has a twin sister,” Yano says. “She's a perpetual third-grader. She lives outside of London. I could go on. A lot of people don't know the story and a lot don't care. But it's interesting because Hello Kitty emerged in the 1970s, when the Japanese and Japanese women were into Britain. They loved the idea of Britain. It represented the quintessential idealized childhood, almost like a white picket fence. So the biography was created exactly for the tastes of that time."
vanityfair.comHello Kitty is a "perpetual third-grader" (9 years old). She loves to bake cookies and dreams of becoming a pianist or poet one day.
"As tall as five apples, and as heavy as three, Hello Kitty is a bright little girl with a heart of gold. She loves to bake cookies and play the piano, and dreams of one day becoming a pianist or maybe even a poet. She has a gift for music and English, and a soft spot for Mama’s apple pie. Hello Kitty and her twin sister Mimmy are the best of friends." - Sanrio
time.comWait, how is Hello Kitty not a kitty? Simple: she walks and sits on two feet like a person, and has her own pet cat called Charmmy Kitty.
'She is not a cat. She's never depicted on all fours. She walks and sits like a two-legged creature. She does have a pet cat of her own, however, and it's called Charmmy Kitty.'
dailymail.co.ukSo does that mean Mickey Mouse is not a mouse? Or Donald Duck is not a duck? The mystery of life continues...
