Netflix just dropped the first previews of the live action adaptation of popular manga and anime, One Piece
Netflix revealed the poster via Twitter on 30 January of the main character Luffy with the tagline "Setting Sail 2023."
News of the series have been in talks since 2017, and glimpses of the set have been shared by Netflix, but those were about the only pieces of updates fans were able to get... until now.
A picture of the Straw Hat Crew has also been added as the show's banner on the site
The live action ensemble will consist of Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.
One Piece is a manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda, who will also be the Executive Producer in the remake, and has won various awards since its first publication in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1997.
The series earned a Guiness World Record for "the most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author" in 2015.
As of November 2022, the manga has 104 volumes and over 1000 chapters altogether. The anime adaptation of the manga has been running since 1999, and has over 800 episodes.
The premise of the story circles around Luffy, a boy who sets out to become the King of Pirates. In order to reach this goal, Luffy must assemble a band of pirates and find his way to Raftel — the island on the outskirts of New World that supposedly houses the treasure, the titular One Piece.
