Joan Rivers, a popular comedian and TV personality passed away at the age of 81
Rivers was rushed to a hospital in New York City last week after she stopped breathing and suffered cardiac arrest during a surgical throat procedure at a clinic. She was placed in a medically induced coma and remained on life support for several days. On Wednesday, Rivers left intensive care. But reports emerged Thursday that her daughter, Melissa, had to decide whether to take her off life support.

She got her big break in 1965, by appearing as a guest in "Tonight Show With Johnny Carson". Carson would later become her mentor and close friend.
In 1966, she was also a guest on The Ed Sullivan Show, a popular TV Variety show during that time. By this time, she had begun to write materials for Johnny Carson.
She was married to Edgar Rosenberg in 1965, just four days after being hired as his writer. Edgar would later commit suicide 22 years later due to depression.
Edgar and Joan had a child together named Melissa Warburg Rosenberg, or better known as Melissa Rivers
Joan's popularity began growing in the 1970s and had appeared in multiple TV shows such as "The Carol Burnett" and "Hollywood Squares"
In 1986, she was given the opportunity to host a late night talk show titled "The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers" on a rival channel. Long time friend Johnny Carson was not told about it in person and stopped talking to her ever since.
Although she was the first female to have a late night talk show, Joan Rivers had a falling out with the TV executives. She moved on to host a daytime talk show, leading her to an Emmy win in 1990.
Rivers was a host in the late 90's for E!, covering award shows such as the Academy Awards and the Golden Globes
Her quick comments and her uncensored opinion on celebrity fashion made her an icon. She then moved on to TV series such as Nip/Tuck, and also home shopping networks such as QVC.
In 2009, she was a guest celebrity in the "Celebrity Apprentice", an adaptation of the reality show. Joan Rivers won and donated the prize money to the charity, "God's Love We Deliver".
Most of the younger crowd are familiar with her work in Fashion Police, where Joan highlights the do's and don'ts of fashion by using celebrities as examples.
Joan expanded into the online world by hosting a show on YouTube, "In Bed With Joan". Many YouTubers such as JennaMarbles have become guests on the show.
