No one seems to be able to get a straight answer out of Robert Downey Jr. about whether or not Iron Man 4 is in the works.

Last year, Marvel announced that Robert Downey Jr. has officially signed to return as Tony Stark AKA Iron Man in both (still untitled) The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3. Iron Man 4 – at least at this point in time – is not part of the plan for RDJ as he aims to clear up his schedule to pursue other projects.

...but A Simple "So, Yes" From Ellen Had Downey Swiftly Confirming A Fourth Movie For The Franchise

This comes a month after RDJ stated that "there's nothing in the pipe," and "there’s no plan for a fourth Iron Man".


However, In A Later Appearance In The Late Show With David Letterman, The Iron Man Star Sang A Different Tune When The Topic Was Breached

Asked why not, the 49-year-old star said, "That's a valid question. Like it hasn't made enough money? Yeah, I guess they have too much money or something. There is no script for Iron Man 4. They do have a plan and I think they're going to announce it [soon]."


Undeterred, Letterman Asked Downey A Second Time If There's A Possibility Of Another Iron Man Movie In The Works, Only To Be Disappointed With The Answer

"How Am I Gonna Break It To My Son?", Letterman Lamented, To Which The Actor Replied, "There Will Be Other Stuff. He'll Be Fine!"

"I’m gonna do other stuff with Marvel. I’m still gonna be involved with Marvel, and there’s gonna be plenty of fun stuff to happen," he added.

He Also Confirmed That A Third Sherlock Holmes Movie, In Which The Actor Stars As The Title Role, Is In The Works
