Any movie that combines an awesomely nostalgic soundtrack and unexpectedly mesmerising vocals with totally relatable characters and a heart-warming storyline is definitely something to get hyped about.
And if that wasn't enough to get you as excited as we are right now, check out just how star-studded the cast is:
1. Taron Egerton
Okay so he already totally sassed and charmed his way into hearts playing Gary 'Eggsy' Unwin in Kingsman. Now you’re telling us he can sing too?! Be still our beating hearts!
We’re going to need to prepare our feels right now ‘cause judging from the little snippet of his singing in the trailer, he’s going to totally blow us away. #fangirlalert
Who he's voicing: Johnny, a young gangster gorilla looking to break free from the expectation of following in the footsteps of his family’s criminal gang activities to pursue his own dreams of becoming a singer.
2. Scarlett Johansson
Did you know that ScarJo has actually released 3 studio albums and been featured in quite a few soundtracks as part of a totally legit singing career? We totally didn't! :O Now we're more impressed with her than ever.
We’re eagerly anticipating seeing her step away from her usual style of slow, haunting ballads to tackle a new kind of singing style in the movie.
Who she's voicing: Ashley a.k.a Ash, a punk-rock porcupine struggling to stop being held back by her arrogant boyfriend and their alternative-rock music group to pursue a solo career.
3. Seth McFarlane
You know him as the creator of Family Guy and the voice of much-beloved characters and for his on point comedic talents, but if you’ve never heard him sing before you’re seriously missing out.
With musical stylings reminiscent of his idol Frank Sinatra, his voice will effortlessly croon you to the moon and back which ties in perfectly with his character in 'Sing'.
Who he's voicing: Mike, a con-artist mouse. The only thing smoother than his cons is his voice and saxophone playing skills.
4. Matthew McConaughey
Once known as one of the kings of romantic comedy with his streak of successful 00's rom-com roles, Matthew has since transitioned into taking on serious dramatic roles that have earned him several accolades.
He took on his first animated role when he recently voiced Beetle in 'Kubo and the Two Strings', an incredibly underrated gem of an animated movie that came out earlier this year.
'Sing' marks Matthew's second foray into voicing animated characters. We don't know if we'll actually get to hear him sing in the movie but we're keeping our fingers crossed for it.
Who he's voicing: Buster Moon, a dapper Koala who owns a once glorious theater that has since fallen on hard times. An eternal optimist with a bit of a scoundrel streak in him, Buster loves his theater more than anything else and is willing to do whatever it takes to save it. His master plan? Organising the world's greatest singing competition.
5. Reese Witherspoon
The Academy Award winning actress has long been widely renowned for her acting chops, earning her a reputation as a truly versatile top actress. We loved the taste of her Southern country style singing we got watching her portrayal of June Carter Cash in Walk the Line back in 2005. So we're super excited to hear how she'll bring her character to life this time around.
Who she's voicing: Rosita, a pig who is both an overtaxed housewife and mother of 25 (yeah, seriously!). She has lost all sense of self admist all the daily household responsibilities that comes with taking care of her family. Through singing, she will find herself again and learn that there's so much more to her than what meets the eye.
6. Tori Kelly
One look at Tori's impressive list of past experiences and we know that she's absolutely going to blow us away! She has participated in various audition programs such as 'Star Search' and 'American Idol' as a teenager, found popularity as an artist on YouTube, and eventually made her official debut as a singer. 'Sing' will be Tori's first film role and we can't wait to hear her.
Who she's voicing: Meena, a shy and timid teenage elephant whose huge talent and potential comes with an equally enormous case of stage fright.
7. Nick Kroll
Wherever Nick goes, laughter is sure to follow. You should definitely check out the FXX comedy series 'The League' and the Comedy Central series 'Kroll Show' to see just how hilarious he can be. His unique brand of humor is sure to make his character in 'Sing' stand out from the rest and shine in a way that only Nick can deliver.
Who he's voicing: Gunter, a ever-optimistic, bubbly and extremely confident pig who ends up becoming Rosita's dance partner.
