Couple Shows Up At Voting Centre In Wedding Attire To Vote & Celebrate Their Big Day
"Voting for a better future. Thank you everyone for your selflessness and letting me vote first!" said the bride.
Among the usual throng of voters, a woman in a wedding gown was spotted standing in line to cast a ballot in Subang Jaya, Selangor
The sight at the polling station in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan USJ 12 was caught from afar by Subang Jaya assemblyperson Michelle Ng.
"To the bride at SMK USJ 12: Thank you for voting despite it being your big day! Wishing you and your husband a happy married life together!" Ng wished on Facebook while posting a photo of the bride.
The bride, Jamie Chai, has since replied to Ng's Facebook post with gratitude after it went viral with well wishes
"It's me, YB Michelle Ng Mei Sze! Honoured to be allowed to vote for my country and city," Chai commented in reply.
She added that she was thankful for all the other voters at the polling station who allowed her to skip the queue after seeing her in her wedding gown.
"Voting for a better future. Doing my part! Thank you everyone for your selflessness and letting me vote first," the 27-year-old wrote, and shared a photo of herself and her husband, Jack.
The couple were at the polling centre to vote for the Subang parliamentary seat after a church ceremony in the morning
Chai told SAYS that when she found out polling day coincided with her wedding day today, 19 November, she initially could not believe it.
"I was definitely reeling and very anxious, but God has really blessed our event today, and the weather and timing were perfect!" said the bride, who added that her husband and herself were excited to play their roles in the current general election, as they both did in the last one.
"[We cannot] emphasise enough that every vote counts! It really feels wrong to just stay silent and choose hopelessness over action, regardless of the outcome."
