In August 2012, the world's first known "liliger" was born at a zoo in Novosibirsk, Russia. The breed is a cross between a lion and a lion-tiger hybrid, known as a liger.

The cub, named Kiara, bonded with a nurturing domestic cat for a short time, after her liger mother couldn't produce milk. This week, photos of that adorable interaction surfaced on Internet.

As soon as the two were introduced, Darka slipped straight into the role of parent by licking and warming the cub as if she were her own

Pictured playing and nuzzling together, the two formed an extraordinary bond and were rarely seen apart

However, it wasn't long before the mini mammal began displaying more predatory behaviour, a sign it was time to return her mother. Kiara was taken back to the zoo where she was successfully re-introduced to her mother.
