American TikToker Asks Malaysians About Annoying Tourist Habits & The Comments Are Savage
No "begpacking"!
We've all had our fair share of experiences with obnoxious tourists that have ZERO regard for the local culture and customs
However, a TikToker by the username @motiotra decided he wanted to be anything but a stereotypical American tourist and uploaded a video asking Malaysians about things that are seen as rude in Malaysian culture, as well as things that tourists do that annoy them.
Safe to say, Malaysians had plenty of advice on what to do and avoid doing when visiting
A few users pointed towards some tourists' less than savoury habit of skipping a shower (or two), an issue you're likely to experience up close and personal when you're packed into public transport like sardines and pressed up against another sweaty body.
One user also commented on tourists (presumably backpackers) drying their damp socks in public eateries.
One user stated that when someone thanks you, it's polite to say "thank you" back, instead of the customary "you're welcome". Malaysians just like reciprocity!
Another user joked that one should respect the humble Myvi above all else. It's a Malaysian symbol after all.
One person stated that one only needs to be respectful.
Though it sounds simple, one may be surprised that this advice is groundbreaking for some tourists. (I'm looking at you, Jake Paul.)
In the same vein, many users also referenced Alwin, a French TikToker who rudely crashed a wedding he was not invited to in Vietnam — a good example of how not to be respectful when visiting another country.
(For context, Alwin gorged on their food and complained about how none of the wedding guests were welcoming or friendly to him.)
However, if there's one thing most of the comments agreed upon, it was their disdain for "begpackers"
