'Mysterious' Green Sky In Sungai Besar Leaves M'sians Coming Up With Creative Explanations
The Selangor Fishermen's Association has since explained the reason behind the sighting.
Many Malaysians were left confused by an usual sighting of 'green sky' in Sungai Besar, Selangor on Tuesday, 24 October
A photo of the green sky was first posted to a Sungai Besar community Facebook group at 8.21pm on Tuesday, leading many residents in the area to report that they had also seen the same sight.
Selangor Fishermen's Association chairman Omar Abdul Rahman clarified yesterday, 25 October, that the phenomenon was caused by lights used by fishermen to catch fish and squid, a method called 'squid jigging'.
The fishing method uses large overhead lights to illuminate the water and attract squid.
As a result, the squid will gather in the shaded area under fishermen's vessels, making it easier for the fishermen to catch them using barbless lures on monofilament fishing lines.
The green sky photos are a result of light pollution generated from fishermen's green lamps.
Before the official explanation was announced, creative netizens chimed in with hilarious explanations for the phenomenon.
