[PHOTOS] Have You Ever Wondered What Wild Animals Looked Like On The LRT?

The metro in almost any city can be a metaphorical zoo at times. But the Animetro series by photographers Clarisse Rebotier and Thomas Subtil takes that concept to a much more literal place.

Two French photographers have combined their creative efforts in a new series that answers the question:

What if wild animals took the subway?

While the subway in almost any city can be a metaphorical zoo at times, the Animetro series by photographers Clarisse Rebotier and Thomas Subtil takes that concept to a very literal place

Featuring everything from lions making their way through the gates to Giraffes precariously — and rather dangerously — sticking their heads out of moving subway cars, the composites are aesthetically appealing, pretty darn realistic looking and humorous all at the same time.

The goal of this project was to inspire people to see the world differently, to spice of the humdrum of the day-to-day with humorous imagination

The series imagines a magical world that toes the line “between photo realism and dreams,” taking the rather mundane world of public transportation and “approaching [it] with amusement.” As the duo puts it, “It is surely not your typical day on the Paris Metro.”

The photographers took care to ensure that the images were both realistic enough to be plausible, but surreal enough that they still exhibited a "dreamlike aspect"

"No one today sees the subway as something that can give pleasure or satisfaction," said Subtil

"We want these people to think they are anywhere else," explained Rebotier

"Children look at the world with curiosity and surprise," said Rebotier. "Photos of animals outside their usual habitat can recreate that same kind of feeling in adults."
