This Chinese School In KL Goes Viral For Lavish 5-Star Student Restrooms
A school representative told SAYS that the renovation was funded by parents and generous members of the public.
A Chinese vernacular school in Kuala Lumpur has gone viral after photos of their newly renovated restrooms went viral on Facebook last week
On the first day of school last Monday, 11 March, SJK(C) Chung Kwok posted nine photos of their newly renovated tiled-wall restrooms. They come furnished with automatic flushing sensors for toilets and urinals.
The faucets and soap dispensers at the sinks are believed to come with sensors as well.
"Thanks to the noble people who have made this possible. The new restrooms in our school will be officially opened today," read the post.
At the time of writing, the post has gone viral with over 2,100 likes and 2,000 shares
"Wow, five-star grade restrooms," wrote an astonished netizen.
"[These restrooms] are more luxurious than mine at home," said one person, while another added, "I hope every school has [such beautiful restrooms]."
Speaking to SAYS, a representative from SJK(C) Chung Kwok said the renovation took about three months to complete
When asked how many parents contributed to the cost of the renovation, they said it is difficult to provide an exact figure.
"There are many donors. I can't give you the exact figure because some people contributed money, while others contributed effort.
"Most of the contributors are parents. When the contractors were working on the project, they did not charge us the full amount. The tile dealer also did not charge us the full amount.
"Some of the parents are interior designers, so they helped [design the toilets]. The parents also made suggestions when purchasing electrical wirings, lights, and other miscellaneous items," said the representative.
They added that since SJK(C) Chung Kwok is a semi-private school, no public funds were used in the renovation.
