Air Selangor Launches #SembangKalauBimbang Campaign To Promote Mental Health Awareness
Aiming to go beyond its role as a water service provider, Air Selangor emphasises its commitment to consumer wellbeing.
Did you know that mental health issues affect about one-third of Malaysians?
The National Health and Morbidity Survey 2015 found that most people do not seek help because of the stigma and discrimination they face from society.
This issue extends into the workforce, where 50% of Malaysian employees felt uncomfortable discussing mental health issues, and 49% of them were afraid that they would face repercussions upon sharing, according to a separate report.
That's why Air Selangor has launched a mental health awareness campaign called #SembangKalauBimbang, which means "talk it out if you're worried"
The campaign aims to raise awareness and promote mental wellbeing nationwide by using water as a symbol of healthy living. It also encourages people to have open conversations about their mental health.
Air Selangor is partnering with Selangor FC, We Love You Box, and several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) such as the Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA), Mental Illness Awareness & Support Association (MIASA), Mental Health Aid Association (NYAWA) and Malaysia Medical Association (MMA) Selangor. This is to provide holistic support for mental health issues, from creating safe spaces and offering more resources and volunteers, to fostering public education.
In conjunction with the campaign, Air Selangor also launched a video, featuring Selangor FC's captain Brendan Gan.Watch the video below:
Air Selangor's Head of Corporate Communication Elina Baseri shared that seeking help for mental health is not a destination, but a process
"It's a process that requires emotional support from us. We have to constantly remind them that they are not alone. I hope our #SembangKalauBimbang campaign will provide the right channels for those in need," she said.
Additionally, the #SembangKalauBimbang campaign will be driven by a social media challenge led by six influencers
This includes Ustaz Mizi Wahid, content creator Zachary Cheah, actress Sharifah Aleya, singer Santesh Kumar, content creator Brandon Ho, and social activist Adrian Edy.
These key opinion leaders will share their personal experiences with mental health issues and invite others to do the same using the hashtag #SembangKalauBimbang.
If you or someone you know is facing mental health issues, don't be afraid to reach out for help. Remember, #SembangKalauBimbang!
