Did you know there are special edition Carlsberg Smooth Draught beer cans that you can only get in Sabah and Sarawak?

You heard that right. Carlsberg has been doing some pretty cool stuff for its fans in East Malaysia, including having cans exclusively available to the region. :O

In this instance, Carlsberg Smooth Draught is celebrating Sabahan and Sarawakian pride for the third year in a row. And, the brand has collaborated with one tattoo artist from each state to tell the story of East Malaysia.

Inspired by six beautiful icons from the Borneo islands, tattoo artists Ernesto Kalum (Sarawak) and Carlos Benny Majakil (Sabah) worked with Carlsberg to curate artful traditional tattoo designs on its Smooth Draught cans

Some of the designs include Mount Kinabalu in Sabah and treasured native birds like the hornbill, among others.

The Carlsberg Smooth Draught special-edition cans are designed by locals for locals, who pay homage to the six Borneo icons in a traditional yet contemporary tattoo aesthetic, as seen through the packaging.

A collaborative masterpiece between two well-known tattoo artists, Ernesto Kalum and Carlos Benny Majakil approached the creative project with the intention of bringing people together in appreciation and celebration of the stunning islands of Borneo.

The special-edition packaging intrinsically features the quintessential hornbill, longhouse, the sape of Sarawak, as well as the rafflesia, orangutan, and the majestic Mount Kinabalu of Sabah

Kalum shared, "My inspiration for these designs is quite literally everything around us.

"Right outside our window there is nature like the trees, animals, and beings we can or cannot see. The aim of every design is to show how we are all connected, told through a story."

Meanwhile, Majakil said, "This collaboration will definitely open up doors for more people around the world to appreciate our East Malaysia tattoo art culture. I'm very happy that Carlsberg not only recognises our culture, but also celebrates it together with us."

According to Carlsberg, the six Carlsberg Smooth Draught special-edition designs will be introduced over three phases through consumer promotions

The first two designs were revealed in April.

Two other designs are slated for release in early July through September, with the final two designs due to showcase in the last quarter of the year.

The special-edition designs are available in both cans and bottles.

Guess what? From now until the end of June, beer aficionados and limited edition can collectors in Sabah and Sarawak can stand a chance to win all sorts of cool gadgets.

They include goodies like the iPad Air, iPhone, and AirPods, so act quickly if you want to win a prize for yourself.

Each entry must come with a purchase of at least RM200 worth of Carlsberg Danish Pilsner or Carlsberg Smooth Draught at participating bars and pubs, 12 big bottles at food courts and coffee shops, or a 24-can carton at supermarkets, hypermarkets, and other retail outlets, respectively, in a single receipt.

On top of that, you'll get to immediately redeem special-edition Sabah and Sarawak T-shirts featuring two collectible designs with any of the mentioned purchases.

As a reminder, the legal drinking age in Malaysia is 21 years old. That means you need to be 21 and non-Muslim in order to buy and consume alcohol. Remember to always drink responsibly and in moderation. Don't drink and drive. If you plan to drink, try carpooling with a friend who isn't drinking or catch a cab instead of driving.
