7 Holiday Destinations In Asia That Are Actually Kid-Friendly
Something for you, and something for the little humans.
1. Bali, Indonesia
The Island of the Gods is just a three-hour flight away from KL, making it a favourite vacation spot among Malaysians. It has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, picturesque rice terraces, and majestic temples. Bali really is a great place for the whole family to explore.
But the island has more than just temples, beaches, and rice fields - it's also home to Waterbom Bali, Asia's number one water park. Five of its 13 water rides are kid-friendly, and there's even a bungy attraction that is suitable for children of all ages!
If you and your little ones are fans of nature, do check out the Campuhan Ridge Walk and the Bali Safari and Marine Park. It's also better to bring a baby sling or an ultra-light foldable stroller for your toddler as the walkways can be quite narrow and uneven. Remember to also only take Blue Bird Group's taxi when you're there.
2. Hua Hin, Thailand
Hua Hin district is a popular beach resort town for both local and international tourists, which is just a three-hour drive away from Bangkok. You can find many posh seaside resorts and affordable stays on Hua Hin Beach. Water sports and horseback riding are among the popular activities available for families.
Hua Hin is also known for its many theme parks, the most visited ones include:
- Santorini Park: a theme park inspired by the popular Greek island
- Black Mountain Water Park: a huge water park with nine slides and seven different types of pools
- Vana Nava Water Jungle - the first water park in Asia to be located inside a tropical jungle
There's also a few themed shopping and F&B areas such as the vintage Plern Wan and the fairy tale-like Venezia Hua Hin for you and your family to explore.
3. Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Still commonly referred to as Saigon, the Vietnamese capital is a bustling city with a nostalgic charm. This is a place where you'll see colourful colonial buildings sandwiched between silver skyscrapers. You'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to food: they serve amazing local food, as well as delicious international cuisines.
This is a great place to go on a cultural tour with your kids. Most of the attractions are situated near each other, so you can either walk (baby slings are recommended as the sidewalks aren't very pram-friendly) or hire a driver for a day for some sightseeing. Seeing the Notre-Dame Basilica, Central Post Office, and Gia Long Palace will make you think you're in Europe. The Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens is also worth visiting.
The city also has a few theme parks, the more popular one being the Dam Sen Water Park. This water park has more than 30 rides, and a children's pool with an elaborate water palace.
4. Singapore
You will never run out of things to do with your kids in Singapore. The busy city has everything from theme parks to nature walks that the whole family will enjoy. Kids will love the colourful and unique Gardens By the Bay, which has a free water playground just for children. The Jacob Ballas Children's Garden situated inside the Singapore Botanic Gardens is also a crowd favourite.
Almost all of the major museums in Singapore have exhibitions designed specially for kids, such as Story of the Forest in the National Museum of Singapore and FUTURE WORLD at the Instagram-worthy ArtScience Museum. There are special days when kids can go in free too!
Don't forget to also check out the rides at Universal Studios Singapore while you're there. Trust us, the rides there are really worth it.
5. Hong Kong
The land of dim sum has so many fun things for the kids to do. The city is not just famous for its local cuisine, but also for the interesting culture mix that you can experience there. Among the modern skyscrapers are traditional buildings with British-Cantonese architecture; you can even find Western influences in their char chan teng's (Hong Kong tea house) menu offerings.
Needless to say, the top attraction in Hong Kong has to be Disneyland. There are more than 30 rides there. Your kids will be delighted to join the daily meet-and-greet sessions with all the Disney characters. Plaza Inn is also known for its delicious dim sum and buns.
You and your kids can also go pink dolphin-spotting with Hong Kong DolphinWatch. The team organises boat tours to educate the public on the dangers these dolphins are facing right now. The team also donates part of the tour's fees to the Hong Kong World Wide Fund For Nature and Friends of the Earth.
6. Tokyo, Japan
Go there for the beautiful Japanese gardens. The parks in Tokyo are extremely stroller-friendly, with nicely paved pathways for easy walking. The weather is mostly pleasant throughout November and December, and you get to see the parks in all its golden autumn hues.
Tokyo is also home to the Disneyland and DisneySea theme parks, both of which allow free entry for children below three years old. There are also strollers for rent, as well as Baby Centres where parents can nurse their kids, or change the babies' diapers. Hot water is offered for free in the Centres, and parents are allowed to bring self-prepared meals for their little ones.
Children who are slightly older will especially enjoy the themed eateries in Tokyo. Some serve food made to look like Hello Kitty and Gudetama, while others serve you meals in fantasy environments - like Wonderland and even a samurai's home.
7. Jeju Island, South Korea
Jeju Island is not just a great place for honeymoon trips - there are loads of fun family activities to do there too! You can go for some for a light stroll in Hallim Park to check out some of their 16 gardens, or swim in the clear waters at Hyeop-jae Beach (there are kids' pools around).
Both you and your kids will enjoy the Teddy Bear Museum tour in Jeju, especially if you love Korean dramas. The museum has an extensive collection of unique and rare teddy bears, and even creates reenactments from famous Korean dramas using these cute soft toys.
Another popular museum is the Hello Kitty Island, which has the largest Hello Kitty exhibition in Korea. The museum claims to provide the "happiest one-day in the world", with a play area for children. At the end of the tour, you can treat the family to some pretty, pink desserts at the Hello Kitty Café.
