This Funeral Parlour Accepts Donations Of Unused Makeup Products For Embalming Purposes
Among some of their most needed items include concealers, due to its high coverage properties.
Do you have a bunch of makeup products at home that you're not planning to use? Don't throw them out!
Here's just the cause that'll benefit from your unused makeup products.
A Singaporean funeral parlour known as Casket Fairprice is currently collecting unused makeup products that are deeply needed for the embalming process of departed individuals.
Operating through a campaign referred to as "Dignity for the Departed", the project was launched on 16 December 2022 and will continue until next Tuesday, 17 January.
In an effort to reduce wastage of makeup products and reinforce sustainability practices, the parlour heavily encourages individuals who are cleaning out their homes, or those who may have gotten the wrong tone or shade of makeup products, to send it their way instead of throwing them out.
"All donated products will be repurposed and used by our embalmers during the makeup and dressing process, for beautification and restoration," read the mission statement by Casket Fairprice on their website.
While the collection drive is supposed to continue for just another week, Casket Fairprice is hoping their Dignity for the Departed campaign will eventually become an ongoing initiative
In an effort to ensure each departed individual is sent off with grace, the embalmers at Casket Fairprice will inspect all the makeup items upon receiving them, so as to make sure that they are in good condition to be used.
According to Singaporean media outlet 8 Days, Casket Fairprice typically purchases specialised mortuary cosmetics and commercial makeup for the embalming process.
"For foundation or concealer, it is important to match the right shade to the skin tone or else it may look unnatural to the bereaved family — a blend of professional mortuary cosmetics and regular cosmetics is often used," said Rachael Tay, the Corporate Development Manager at Casket Fairprice.
Additionally, neutral shade of lipsticks are applied for men, while red shades are applied for women. Other accessories such as false eyelashes, mascara, and eyeliners are seldom used unless requested by the family.
Tay was also forthright about the necessity for a diverse range of makeup options to choose from, as no two faces are alike when preparing an individual for the embalming process.
"Embalming is often not a one-size-fits-all process due to the different situations that we may face, thus we provide our embalmers with a variety of makeup options to help them deliver quality service," said Tay.
In a brief conversation with SAYS, Casket Fairprice revealed that they do accept international donations from those overseas, including Malaysians
Here are the makeup products accepted by Casket Fairprice:
1. Concealers (in demand due to high coverage properties)
2. High coverage foundation
3. Eyebrow pencils
4. Blusher
5. Lipsticks
6. Setting powders and sprays
Do NOT donate the following items:
1. Highlight or contouring products
2. Mascara (rarely used unless requested by the deceased's family)
3. False eyelashes
4. Double-eyelid tape
Unused makeup items, especially those that are brand new, unopened, or still in their packaging, are most ideal, as this allows the embalming team to verify the expiry date and usability of the product.
Lightly-used items can be sent over, but will only be considered for use after the embalming team performs a check to ensure it is still appropriate for use.
To make a donation, members of the public can either mail the products to, or drop them off at the following address:
Casket Fairprice, 37 Sin Ming Drive #01-571, Singapore 575711
For those who are in Singapore, drop-offs are available to be made at these hours:
- 8.30am-4.30pm (Sunday to Friday).
- 8.30am-1pm (Saturday).
