The move is part of a bigger initiative towards "a more sustainable environment."
Ever gone to IKEA just for its iconic vanilla soft-serve ice cream?
If your answer is yes, you'll definitely have feelings about this announcement.
According to IKEA Malaysia's official Facebook page, the Swedish furniture giant has officially replaced the much-loved vanilla flavoured soft-serve with soya, which is 100% plant-based, dairy-free, and gluten-free.
Vegans, lactose intolerant people, and people with gluten allergies, rejoice!
IKEA Malaysia explained that the move is part of a bigger initiative towards "a more sustainable environment," which they plan to accomplish "one soya ice cream at a time"
According to a study conducted by Ripple, the carbon emission of dairy milk is nearly four times more than that of non-dairy milk.
IKEA announced its intentions to introduce a plant-based ice cream on Instagram in June.
"We're working closely with different suppliers to find the right taste and texture and are currently exploring three different alternatives, either based on oats, soy, or fruits," Range Manager at IKEA food services Gerry Dufresne told Vegan Food And Living.
Since the news broke, netizens have taken to social media to express their thoughts about the change.
Some were simply not having it.
A few social media users pointed out that the company should have introduced the soya flavour as an alternative to dairy, rather than replacing the vanilla option entirely.
