Hidden within the busy streets of SS15 lies a special place that's building a name for itself among thrift-shoppers and café-goers

With no visible sign on the outside, this spot located beside a 7-11 certainly not a place you will stumble upon while walking around the area.

As you walk up the unsuspecting set of stairs, the groovy sounds of city pop will start to get louder and louder until you are transported to the world of Shimokita Space.

Inspired by aesthetics of the '80s and '90s in Japan, this place is decked with posters and other knick-knacks that will make you feel like you've gone back in time

Jay, the founder of Shimokita, is a massive fan of Japanese culture. When he couldn't visit the country due to travel restrictions, he decided to bring Japan to him instead.

"Japanese culture is so popular in Malaysia, but what you see here is mostly samurai themed or all of those cultural Japanese concepts, but I think younger people want something else. They love Harajuku fashion, pop culture, and city pop," he told SAYS.

"We did almost everything in this space ourselves, from the paint to the flooring, and 90% of the furniture is also thrifted"

After you've browsed through their curated racks, you can sample their freshly made food while you sit back and enjoy the sounds of Miki Matsubara in the background.

Their Triple Beef Smashburger and Spicy Chicken Burger are relatively affordable at RM12 each.

Be sure to try the store's special Butterbeer (yes, like the ones in Harry Potter) too, selling at RM10.

As it opens until late, this is a perfect place for a late-night hangout and to do a little thrifting after work hours.

Address:
94, Jalan SS 15/4b, SS 15, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor

Opening hours:
3pm - 11pm (Tuesday to Sunday)
Closed on Monday.
