Did you know that Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia's independence days are observed in the same month?
That's right — Malaysia's Hari Kebangsaan falls on 31 August, while the Lion City's independence day falls on 9 August. Indonesia's independence day, on the other hand, falls on 17 August.
These countries are part of The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), a political and economic union of 10 countries aiming to provide equal opportunities for all.
Fun fact: ASEAN was established on 8 August 1967, commonly known as ASEAN Day. Every August, ASEAN countries celebrate the hopes, achievements, and dreams of each community, while uniting to achieve the greater good for citizens in Southeast Asia.
In celebration of this meaningful month, Maybank just released a heartwarming music video that rejoices in ASEAN Day, while also celebrating diversity and unity of people from all walks of life
The music video connects the ASEAN region through one universal song — 2011's SEA Games' theme song, Together We Will Shine.
