It's that time of the year again — the Anugerah Guru Inspirasi McDonald's (AGI McDonald's) is back for its sixth year!

Introduced back in 2017, the meaningful award has since received over 19,000 submissions and awarded 106 notable teachers nationwide.

Every year, AGI McDonald's serves as a platform to honour extraordinary teachers who go above and beyond the call of duty.

From providing guidance to trying their best to create a conducive academic environment, lots of dedicated teachers out there do so much for their students, and this award is a wonderful way to thank them for everything they've done.

As part of AGI McDonald's, 25 teachers will be recognised with a cash prize worth RM5,000 each

Meanwhile, those who submit the winning nominations will receive RM200 worth of McDonald's gift vouchers as a token of appreciation.

Dato' Azmir Jaafar, Managing Director and Local Operating Partner of McDonald's Malaysia, spoke about how this year's AGI McDonald's is extra meaningful, given all the challenges teachers have had to face in recent years

He shared, "We saw major changes in the education system in the past two years. Teachers had to transition from in-person classes to fully remote online classes, to different versions of hybrid learning in between.

"Which is why it is all the more important for AGI McDonald's to continue to celebrate these teachers in 2022, for their substantial efforts in ensuring that there's a continuation of education for students across the nation.

"These teachers inspire students to grow as individuals in realising their potential and aspirations. They sacrifice their needs for the needs of students while becoming a positive influence in the students' life that can shift their perspectives and make a significant impact in their lives."

Malaysians can start nominating inspiring teachers by sharing the story of their 'Cikgu Luar Biasa' via the AGI McDonald's website. Here's how:

Step 1: Log on to the AGI McDonald's website

Step 2: Submit the nomination form and write about how your teacher has inspired you (in Bahasa Malaysia, English, or Mandarin)

Step 3: Submit any supporting photos of your teacher (optional)

That's it!

Any students, parents, or teaching fraternities can nominate teachers who are Malaysian citizens and are currently teaching in government or private schools in Malaysia.

The winners will be chosen by a panel of expert judges consisting of representatives from McDonald's, the Ministry of Education, and the media

Ms. Ash from Sekolah Kebangsaan Minden Height was one of the winners of AGI McDonald's 2020. She brings lessons and stories to life by dressing up as various characters, such as Little Red Riding Hood or Maleficent.

The selection criteria in identifying the chosen teachers include improving the academic performance of the students, employing innovative and out-of-the-box methods of teaching, going beyond the call of duty to assist students, and the positive impact the teacher has had on students.

Aside from celebrating teachers through AGI McDonald's, McDonald's Malaysia also prides itself on giving back to the community in other ways

This includes their Program Komuniti @ McDonald's & Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) that runs throughout the year. Last year, they ran initiatives such as celebrating the birthdays of more than 12,000 children at 400 orphanages nationwide, as well as distributing RM1.66 million worth of 'Back-To-School' packs to 21,000 students.

McDonald's also supports RMHC that focuses on the pillars of education, health, and welfare, targeted at deserving children and families.

Nominations are open from 10 March to 2 April, so head over to the AGI McDonald's website to submit your inspirational story about an outstanding teacher now!
