The Waterfront Shoppes in Gelugor is opening today, 29 October, bringing hundreds of retail spaces, food spots, and entertainment options to the island's eastern waterfront.

Located within The Light City, the new shopping destination spans approximately 1.6 million sq ft across four levels, with around 300 retail spaces planned.

The mall is part of a larger 4.1 million sq ft integrated seafront development by IJM Corporation and Perennial Holdings. It is also connected to the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre, which can accommodate more than 10,000 guests.

Here's what to expect

The mall's tenant lineup includes a mix of retail, food, and entertainment options, with names such as Decathlon, Parkson, Skechers, Watsons, ZUS Coffee, CU Mart, Bakestone, ParaThai, and Loud Speaker Karaoke among those reported.

Other outlets include 65c Ondo, Tai Ho Jiak, Mr. Wu Taiwanese Cuisine, and Ningji Lemon Tea, giving visitors more options to grab a bite or drink while exploring the mall.

However, as The Waterfront Shoppes is beginning its soft opening, not every outlet may be ready to welcome customers on the first day.

Beyond shopping and food, visitors can check out Xventure, an indoor adventure park making its Malaysian debut at the mall

Spanning 1,800 sq m, the attraction features 11 adventure zones, including an 8m-tall Challenger Arena with a digital tagging system, a 4.5m-high aerial rope course, and a gigantic seesaw.

Non-peak two-hour tickets start from RM40 for X-Junior and RM60 for X-Plorer, depending on height.

From 29 October to 1 November, the first 100 customers can also purchase a second ticket for RM1, subject to availability and the promotion's terms.
